Radiology Learning Center (RLC)
The Radiology Learning Center was developed as part of the Lucas Center Expansion and opened in July of 2005. RLC is comprised of three distinct spaces: a conference room, a small breakout room, and “hotel” space for visiting faculty. The vision for our project was to create a unique educational learning center, which would be used to advance radiology education and foster changes in the nature of learning, teaching, and learning environments through the intelligent use of technology.
The RLC conference room is located at the entrance to Lucas II and serves as a show site for the Department's achievements. It is a desirable teaching space for faculty and an inspiring resource, which draws talented students to Stanford for their education. It further serves as a hub for faculty and visiting scholars.
The conference room was designed to support interactive, collaborative group learning. It is a technology-intensive learning space that seats approximately 40 students but can easily be reconfigured to facilitate various seating styles. The technological sophistication of this space is unmatched in the school of medicine. This teaching facility allows our faculty to create unique curricula and new tools for teaching that provide a great advantage to our students.
The breakout room is adjacent to the larger conference room and has been set up with technology that is identical to the “collaborative work groups” in the conference room. The two rooms are interconnected with technology, so students can participate in conference room events from the breakout room. This space is also used regularly for meetings by RSL and MIPS faculty.
Visitors from around the world come to teach and do research in partnership with our faculty. The RLC “hotel” space has been developed with our luminaries in mind and ensures that we can grow our program by providing space for up to eight visiting faculty. The hotel office furnishes them with the essentials for a productive working environment as well as proximity to our research efforts and teaching facilities.
